Athletes and Authors at CCES Summer Encounters

The following testimonials and pictures come from past Athletes and Authors camps.  Enjoy!

Dear Coach D and Coach Sanders and all of the other wonderful devoted volunteers. I just wanted to write on behalf of my son.  I have never seen him so excited and happy to go to summer camp.  In the past years our son has attended the “high end” camp schools that features horseback riding and all the other bells and whistles.  He never left the house as he did every morning to see Coach D and Coach Sanders!!  I asked him what made this camp so special?  A very simple answer.  Mom the guys are the best!!  Which proves a very significant aspect of life.  You can have all the bells and whistles but if the leaders are not unified, caring and enthusiastic it means nothing.  Needless to say he was tutored on respect and responsibility and all I can say that I think the coaches at this camp are held in high esteem and regard by the children and parents.  Great Job.  Our son will be back next year!!!  -Mary

My boys loved the camp.  Neither of them is particularly athletically inclined so the inclusive nature of the activities was very good. Often, because they aren’t strong at games, they feel left out or hesitant to join in.  The camp gave them more confidence to participate.  On the first week they came home raving – loved it!  -Laura

Our sons were very happy with the camp and we shall certainly return the next summer. You enthusiasm is contagious and we appreciated your professional focus on teaching athletic techniques, key values, and culture. It is not easy to find a summer camp with teachers. Yours is one and that makes a big difference!  -Maiju and Christopher

My three sons, ages 9,11 and 14 loved their time at Athletes and Authors. I enjoyed seeing them put into practice the positive messages they learned while at camp like; respect courage, and cooperation, (which is imperative in a household with 3 boys). Dinnertime was filled with stories about their day and the lives of inspiring athletes they learned about while at camp. I believe the experience at Athletes and Authors made the transition from elementary to middle school less intimidating (especially the lessons about courage and confidence). I feel fortunate having such positive male role models for my sons as Coach Sanders and Coach D’Ambrosio. Athletes and Authors is a brilliant combination for teaching young people messages they can apply immediately to their every day lives.  -Bethany

Our son had a very nice experience, he still talks about some of the articles that he had been reading during the camp, and we definitively will enroll him again next year.  -Sonia

Both of my boys, one elementary and one middle school attended Athletes and Authors Camp last summer. It was a great experience for both kids. Though both of them are good readers they read very little for pleasure and they have never wanted to do “learning” things in the summer. They enjoy sports and Athletes and Authors gave them a chance to play the sports they already like and exposed them to sports they were less familiar with.  -Laurie

I highly recommend this camp to any parent who wants their child to have a blast and learn something about social life through sports in the slow summer months.  -Ivan

I wanted to say how pleased my son and I were with your summer program, Athletes and Authors. My son benefited tremendously from the low stress, fun atmosphere. Everyday he came home, happy, and feeling good. I don’t know how you did it, but you took a kid that was not a great athlete, got him loving all that is good in sports, and yearning for more. It’s great having young, enthusiastic instructors that the kids can relate to.  -Mary

I gained strength and endurance during the camp. Camp was difficult at times but I was able to push through. It was really fun! We played a new sport each day, which kept all of us interested and having fun. Mr. D. and Mr. Sanders are AWESOME!!!! They really are good at helping you understand everything both physically and academically. I really enjoyed it!  -Candice

I learned the most athletically at Athletes and Authors. But I also learned some things socially and academically. My favorite thing about what we did in the camp was how we went over a broad area of different sports. From football to lacrosse to soccer and even Ultimate Frisbee, we went over each game in depth. Academically, we learned about what we can to better ourselves in the academic and athletic fields. These values included perseverance and self-discipline. Socially, I made friends that I didn’t even know during the school year. Athletes and Authors was a fun camp and I’m happy to say I’ll be back next year.  -Paul

I loved Athletes & Authors. It provided really good conditioning for any sport. We did a lot of drills that built up our agility, flexibility and strength. In the classroom, we learned the history of sports and about some of the Greats. It was inspirational!!  -Jazz
